UBER SPONSORS THE FIRST TECH FOR SAFETY SUMMIT IN NAIROBI

14, July 2020

Uber successfully hosted the first tech for safety summit in Nairobi on 20th November in 2019. The summit sought to interrogate how current and developing technology can be used to ensure safety on Kenyan roads and largely in the African continent.

Safety is paramount for any form of socio-economic development and transport is very integral to the development of any society; movement of goods, expatriates and services by extension safely within and without borders should be given the seriousness it deserves; all stakeholders in the transport sector and technology developers should come together and find ways of warranting safety on the roads.

But it is unfortunate that here in Kenya this is not the case, the government being the largest player in the industry isn’t playing its role fully, there is to much dead weight from its end and its slowing the progress other players are making.

Increase in road safety awareness has been increased and this is laudable yet we see poor political willpower and inadequate finances to sustain such initiatives.
